We present the Duotone Grip Board.
Take your riding to the next level! Built using FULL CUSTOM SLS technology and designed with our proprietary AI_BOARD_3D software, which allows us to integrate unprecedented complex shaping tasks. The GRIP (Tri) SLS is in a class of its own!
Similar to our SUPER_HERO D/LAB sail, our goal was to create true game changers with the new waveboard range.
What we learned while developing the SUPER_HERO D/LAB is that you have to work on every aspect to achieve truly noticeable improvements.
The transition of our board technology from the industry-standard semi-custom technology to our exclusive FULL CUSTOM PRODUCTION laid the foundation for everything that followed. This technology took the weight-to-durability ratio to a whole new level. And it finally allowed us to manufacture every single prototype in the factory, just as we have been doing with our sails for over 30 years. After all, the best prototype is worthless if it cannot be reproduced or feels different due to variations in materials, processes, or weight.
To take a similar step forward in 3D design, we decided to have our own CAD program developed. Compared to the industry-standard software Shape3D, our DT_BOARD_3D program is much more precise and allows us to realize even highly complex 3D shapes, such as the brand-new SYNCED CURVES CONCEPT.
DESIGN GOALS >> SHAPE DETAILS
Our main goal was to develop designs that offer maximum versatility and are easier (less tiring) yet more radical on the wave.
Essentially, we wanted to create a more stable platform, which offers advantages especially when catching the wave and in whitewater. At the same time, the boards should also become even more radical on the wave—a combination that is usually impossible to achieve.
Here are the 3 most important shape details our team has developed over the past 2.5 years (for all other details, see below under TECH AND SHAPE DETAILS):
STABLE YET RADICAL CONCEPT
Our waveboards are 1–2 cm wider than most other boards.
- The greater width results in a more stable platform. This makes our waveboards as stable as a board 5 liters larger when drifting/floating and in whitewater.
- Above all, however, the extra width creates a more pronounced outline curve. This improves maneuverability, allowing the board to turn as radically as a board 5 liters smaller.
The result is an unbeatably wide range of applications.
3-STAGE ROCKER
Unlike the usual continuous rocker curve, our entire shape concept is based on a segmented rocker line. This takes into account the fact that top and bottom turns are two completely different maneuvers. While the bottom turn is initiated more with the front foot (depending on the wave’s height), the top turn is surfed solely with the back foot. This shift in stance is the biggest challenge, especially when learning to surf which becomes much easier with our 3-STAGE ROCKER.
- The straight rocker section between the
front and rear footstraps creates a super-stable stance/platform, so you’re perfectly in sync with your board on the wave or when riding out as you transition between bottom and top turns.
-
The nose rocker starts right in front of the front footstraps, which helps engage the front part of the edges as soon as you lean forward during the bottom turn. - KICKSTARTER TAIL: The tail rocker after the rear footstrap remains very moderate until the last 4–5 cm before the tail, where it transitions into a progressive tail kick. This tail kick ensures perfect water drainage and, in combination with the flat rocker line, provides Kickstarter-like acceleration as soon as you apply a little pressure with your rear foot. In addition, the tail kick naturally allows for super tight top turns when you snap the board back with your back foot.
SYNCED CURVES CONCEPT (Rocker >
Outline, rocker, and edge shape are the three key elements that determine how a board feels and how it performs. In every rocker and outline, there are areas with more or less curvature. The same applies to the edge radius, which varies significantly. To prevent the three curves from working “against each other,” the top priority is to synchronize these curves. This means that in areas with an increased rocker curve, the outline curve is also raised and the edges have increased curvature, and vice versa.
- Increased outline curve, nose rocker, and edge curvature around the mast track facilitate the initiation of bottom turns (initiated via the front foot)
- Increased outline curve, tail rocker, and edge curvature after the rear footstrap for more radical top turns (initiated with the rear foot).
To the best of our knowledge, this complex 3D task can only be performed by our own AI_BOARD_3D software.
We began testing this concept on existing boards, and the improvements on each board were so overwhelming that we have integrated this design concept into all 2026 boards.
Both the GRIP and the ULTRA GRIP were developed as World Cup wave boards to meet the needs of the best of the best at all possible spots around the globe. Here are the differences:
A. GRIP
Focus on Euro waves >< Logo-high ground swell
Ideal for Klitmøller, Canaries, North Sea, Kanaha
B. ULTRA GRIP
Focus on ground swell >< windy Euro waves (not for onshore conditions)
Ideal for Maui, Cape Town, Brittany, Cabo Verde, Ireland, Chile, Mauritius
